Frances Black Obituary

Frances Honaker Black CHESAPEAKE - Frances Honaker Black went to be with the Lord Oct. 24, 2009. Born in Oak Hill, W.Va., on Aug. 9, 1945, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Irma Pack Honaker. She attended Granby High School, Norfolk, and was a member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church. Fran was an officer in W. L. Black and Associates. Survivors include soulmate and beloved husband of 35 years, William L. Black; sons, Garry L. Black and wife Terece; grandsons, Walker and Evan and L. Boyd Black and wife Polly, all of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Nathan and Frances Black and their mother, Leslie of Norfolk; brother, Tommy Honaker (Paula) of Norfolk; sister, Hope Wager of West Virginia; sisters-in-law, Bettye Gilpin (husband Don), and Nellie Smith (husband Donnie); as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Her brother, Mike Honaker preceded her in death. Among Fran's enormous circle of friends, Brenda Surface and Shirley Moss "the girls" were considered sisters. Fran's lasting legacy is the tremendous love she demonstrated for family and friends; she embraced life fully and loved others deeply. She was an active and fabulous grandmother, animal lover and friend to all. Fran never met a stranger; she loved people, animals, flowers, travel and introducing children to swimming and nature. Fran selflessly gave of herself to others throughout her life and chose to be an organ/tissue donor to enhance the lives of strangers. A celebration of Fran's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, with the Rev. Jonathan Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times will be at 329 Old Drive, Chesapeake. Friends are also invited to send condolences and sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Fran's passing. She was a devoted and dear friend to my mother (Shirley Moss). She was kind, considerate and witty. She will be greatly missed! Our condolences to Bill and his family.

We got to know Fran while we owned 2 Mom's. She would come in and meet Bill and sometimes Garry and Terrece. I was shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. She always made me sit down to fill her in on what was happening with my family. She told me how important her family was to her and she will be missed. Our thoughts are with all of you,

Fondly and in sympathy,

Paul and Deb O'Brien

We are very saddened to hear about Aunt
Fran. My children always called her
Aunt. There are not enough words to
say what an amazing woman she was. She
will be missed greatly. We pray for
comfort, peace and the presence of the
Lord today. God bless and watch over you. Nina and Roland Taylor,
