Jackson Hill Obituary

Jackson Dudley Hill GLOUCESTER - Jackson Dudley Hill, a retired naval officer and former engineer at the Newport News shipyard, died Oct. 25, 2009, at his home in Gloucester, Va. He was 82. Mr. Hill was born in Portland, Maine on May 4, 1927, the first child of Francis B. Hill and Harriet Crooker Jackson Hill. He is survived by his wife, Jean W. Hill; six daughters by his first marriage, Anne Hill Jones of Raleigh, N.C., Alice Hill Murray of Virginia Beach, Pamela Tucker Gibson of Charlottesville, Va., Chelsea Hill Walker of Albuquerque, N.M., Julee Hill Yarosh of West Chester, Pa., and Virginia Louise Hill of Charlottesville; their mother, Virginia Tucker Hill of Virginia Beach; two children of Jean's first marriage, Robert L. Wilkerson of Miami and Nancy Marie Cosby of Gloucester, Va.; and 13 grandchildren. Survivors also include his sister, Elizabeth Hill Johnson, Phippsburg, Maine, and two brothers, Frederic B. Hill, Arrowsic, Maine, and Richard S. Hill, Bath, Maine. He was predeceased by another grandchild, Lindsay Hill Yarosh. His family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Andrews Funeral Home, 7192 Main St., Gloucester. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
