Alisha Miller Obituary

Alisha M. Miller SUFFOLK - Alisha M. Miller, born March 14, 1972, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Oct. 29, 2009. There are not enough words to express the extent of her intelligence, beauty, and grace. Her spirit was one of compassion and kindness. She was a talented motivator, a loyal friend, and beloved family member. All who loved her will treasure her memory in their hearts forever. Alisha was an alumnus of Old Dominion University where she achieved a master's degree in education. As a public educator she dedicated her life to helping others. Alisha served as an educator at Chesapeake public schools for 13 years. She was an active participant in both curricular and extracurricular activities. Alisha was involved with sports such as cheerleading, softball, and volleyball. She was also a member of the Virginia Education Association/NEA, PTA, and a strong advocate for funding for education. Just recently, Alisha had been volunteering her time campaigning locally with the Democratic Party. Alisha had many wonderful experiences as an educator and she displayed great pride in the accomplishments of her students. She spoke often of the special relationships she had with the staff at Western Branch Intermediate that brought love and joy into her life. Left to cherish her memory are her parents, David and Debra Miller; brother, David Miller Jr. and his wife Kristen Miller; niece, Rowen Miller and her dog "Bo." Additional survivors include her uncles, Tommy E. Miller and wife Debbie L. Miller, Jimmy Miller and wife Debbie G. Miller and John S. Miller; aunt, Crystal Miller Teller and husband Sam D. Teller; grandparents, Sigma H. Barnett and her namesake Billie Marie Barnett; uncles, David A. Barnett and Bill Barnett. The family will have a private viewing and service at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory in Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made on behalf of Alisha to the Western Branch Intermediate Technology Department. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember Alisha fondly from elementary school through high school. She was always so bright, but one of my favorite memories was a dance she performed for Mrs. Creekmur to a Barry Manilow song - we were 2nd grade.

May you find peace and God's grace.
