John Reid Obituary

John J. Reid Sr. PORTSMOUTH - John J. Reid Sr., 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior Nov. 1, 2009. He was born July 10, 1935 to the late James and Margaret Reid. He was predeceased in death by his devoted wife of 47 years, Etta Mae Reid. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools and retired from Vico Construction Company after 30 years. He is survived by five daughters, Deborah Moore, Dana Smith (Frank) and Arnetta Reid, all of Portsmouth, Belinda Drew (Michael) of Norfolk and Tonya Reid of Chesapeake; three sons, John J. Reid Jr., Keith Reid, both of Portsmouth and Thomas Reid (Tondria) of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren and one great- grandchild; two sisters, Muriel Brown of Boston and Aurelia J. Sanderson of Washington, D.C.; four brothers, Isaiah Reid of Columbia, S.C., George Reid of Boston, and Daniel Reid of Bergenfield, N.J., and Thomas Reid of Pearland, Texas; nine sisters-in-law and two brothers- in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A wake will be held today, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. at New First Baptist Church Taylorsville. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends and family at 800 Bismarck Myrick St., Portsmouth.
