David Gizara Obituary

David Walter Gizara SUFFOLK - David Walter Gizara, 73, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Aug. 19, 1936 in Barnesville, Pa., to the late Raymond L. and Helen Violet Meskis Gizara, he attended Woodrow Wilson and Chuckatuk High Schools. He was a retired ventilation operator for VDOT and a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. David enjoyed fishing, was an avid baseball fan, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. David is survived by his loving family including his daughter, Maria Mechelle Peed and husband William of Portsmouth; son, D. Mark Gizara and wife Sherri of Chesapeake; two sisters, Dorothy Montague and husband Bobby of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Rose Marie Mitchell and husband Joe of Colfax, N.C.; three grandchildren, Whitney Stark, Amanda Gizara and Faith Gizara; and great- grandson, William Russell Stark. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, by the Rev. James Gordon at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake. A reception will be held at the church after the service, followed by burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of St. Therese or the American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
