Charles Staley Obituary

Charles W. Staley SUFFOLK - Charles W. Staley, 75, died Nov. 10, 2009, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was the son of the late Thomas J. Staley and Margaret Frazier Staley and was also predeceased by a brother, Tommy Staley. He was a caring, loving man. A native of Huntington, W.Va., he was born in 1934. At the age of 12, he and his family moved to Virginia. He was working as a delivery boy when he met the love of his life, Alice F. Merritt, his wife of 57 years. Charles worked for Channel 13 news for 12 years, WFOG Radio Station and retired from the Norfolk School Board after 28 years as a media specialist. He had a special interest and love for his children and grandchildren. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed all the time he spent hunting and fishing with his family. He is survived by his wife, Alice F. Staley; his sons and daughter-in-law, Charles Timothy and Kathleen Staley and Richard Terry Staley; seven grandchildren, Kim, Kevin, Katie, Neil, Ryan, Alec and Josh; one great-granddaughter, Madison; sister, Delores Strater; brother, Bill Staley; and his beloved cat, Callie. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, at 4 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, with the Rev. Tommy Reynolds officiating followed by visitation. Thanks to the kind nurses at Sentara Obici who cared for him with special thanks to his niece Mary Anne Fisher who made his journey more comfortable.
