Bernice Tyler Obituary

Bernice Diehl Tyler WILLIAMSBURG - Bernice Diehl Tyler, 95, died at Colonial Manor in Williamsburg Nov. 11, 2009. She was formerly a resident of Norfolk for 92 years. She was the daughter of the late Kase West Diehl and Etta Feuchter Diehl, and the widow of William Francis "Buck" Tyler. Survivors include her daughter, Nanetta Tyler Hawks and husband Daniel of Williamsburg; a son, Walter Diehl Tyler and wife Barbara of Jacksonville, Fla.; along with five grandchildren. She served on the PTA Boards of Granby and Suburban Park Elementary schools, a volunteer for many years for the Christmas Joy Fund sponsored by Norfolk's Virginian-Pilot and Ledger-Star, and was a founding member of the Elizabeth River Woman's Club in Norfolk. The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters held a special place in her heart. She was a charter member of the Lookout Circle that raised funds for the King's Daughters in the 1930s. A graveside service will be held Monday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, 850 Southampton Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510.
