Laura Diehl Obituary

Laura G. Diehl SUFFOLK - Laura Gene Diehl, 63, passed away Nov. 20, 2009, after a 3-year battle with colon cancer. She faced her disease with tremendous courage and dignity, just as she lived her life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, friend, and grandmother. We will miss her always but she will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Born in Bamberg, Germany, she was the daughter of Richard L. Carpenter and the late Kunigunda Schuhlien Carpenter. Mrs. Diehl was employed as a dental hygienist. Survivors include her husband, Richard Paul Diehl; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Marie and Brian Sobczak of Chesapeake; son, Michael Paul Diehl of Suffolk; grandchildren, Justin Allan and Erin Marie; sisters, Linda Carpenter and Ruth Thurston; brothers, John Carpenter and Richard Carpenter; and cousin, Marjorie Carpenter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Presentation Catholic Church by Father Piotr Bialkowski with burial in Arlington National Cemetery on Dec. 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory today from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 604 Constance Woods Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434. The holidays are an expecially difficult time to loose a loved one. My mother passed away on December the 19th and was buriedmon the 22nd of Dec. My heartfelt synpathies are with you and your loved ones.
