Hazel Peters Obituary

Hazel M. Peters PORTSMOUTH - Hazel Mae Peters, 78, a longtime resident of Portsmouth, died Nov. 22, 2009 in Portsmouth. A native of Gaston, N.C., she was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Waddie Peters; parents, Haywood and Susie Matthews Bass Sr.; brothers, John, Bill, Mack and Raleigh Bass; and sisters, Ollie Mae Killebrew, Lizzie Mae Bass, Leona Turner and Dollie Mae Bass. Survivors include two daughters, Judy M. Diaz (Fernando) of Portsmouth and Susan Nilles (Eric) of Somerville, N.J.; two sons, Henry J. Peters Sr. of Portsmouth and John D. Hobbs (Kathy) of Chesapeake; one sister, Dorothy Hargrave of Margarettsville, N.C.; one brother, Haywood Bass Jr. (Mary) of Richmond; nine grandchildren, Bonnie Stevens, Melinda Diaz and Gary Peters of Portsmouth, Stevie Diaz (Jessica) of Richmond, Henry J. Peters Jr. (Dinah) of Wylie, Texas, Kelly Wood, Johnny Hobbs, Jason Hobbs and Wendy Pasco; 11 great-grandchldren, Breanah Stevens, Chris and Stacey Diaz, Maria, Victoria and Justina Diaz, Alexandra and Victoria Wood, Jasmine Peters, and Matthew and Zachary Pasco. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. G.W. Harley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
