Hazel Elliott Obituary

Hazel S. Elliott EDENTON - Hazel Shaw Elliott, 84, of the 100 block of Blount St., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, N.C. Mrs. Elliott was born in Robeson County, North Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Pocahontas Beard Shaw. A graduate of Flora McDonald College, she began a career as a home extension agent in Chowan County in 1946. Later, she worked with the Chowan County Dept. of Social Services for 30 years before retiring as its director. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Logan Rawlinson Elliott Sr.; her sons, Logan Rawlinson Elliott Jr. and William Oscar Elliott; her sister, Ann Cable; and her brother, Duncan Shaw. Surviving are her brother, Benjamin Franklin Shaw and wife Ethelene of St. Pauls, N.C.; nieces, Carmen Tumelson, Jane McNeil, Laura Cable, and Debbie and Sharon Shaw; and two nephews, Sam and Patrick Cable. Graveside services will be held Thursday at noon in Beaver Hill Cemetery by Father Thomas Rickenbaker. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Edenton-Chowan Rescue Squad, 208 W. Hicks St., Edenton, NC 27932. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www. millerfhc.com.

Mrs. Elliott was a lady in the true old souther style. I worked at Chowan DSS for her for several years and she was always a fair and concerned person to the clients and to all her employees. She will be miss.

Faye and I want to express our deepest sympathy. It was our joy to know Hazel and to share many wonderful times with her. She will be greatly missed by all her friends. She certainly made a positive contribution with her life. Your family will be in our prayers.
