Michael Curran Obituary

Michael C. Curran NORFOLK - Michael C. Curran passed away on Nov. 27, 2009 at the home of his daughter, Catherine. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and was the son of the late Lawrence Edward Curran and Theresa Shalibo Curran. Mike loved his country and served four years at March Air Force Base in Riverside, Calif. He was promoted to staff sergeant after which he graduated from Richmond Professional Institute at the College of William and Mary. He went on to have a long career in banking as a trust officer for First & Merchants in Norfolk and the American National Bank in Chattanooga, Tenn. He tutored teens in a program called "The Homework Club" and he had many hobbies, his favorites being sailing, tennis and traveling. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for the City of Norfolk and chairman of the Tennis Committee at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. He also gave many years of service to the Red Cross and was honored as Volunteer Of The Year for their transportation department. He dearly loved being a father to Catherine; a grandfather to Rylie and Kaylyn Trenchard; and enjoyed the close friendship of Bob and Charlotte Harrell. In his memory, military honors will be accorded Saturday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at a family residence at 501 Virginia Ave. in the Shadowlawn section of Virginia Beach followed by a celebration of his life for family and friends. Cremation & Funeral Services of Tidewater assisted the family.
