To the Smith Family:
I recently heard of the passing of Aunt Geraldine. Its been a LONG time since I have spoken to many of you and I HATE to reconnect under these circumstances. I remember as a child, the MANY things Aunt Geraldine and Aunt Gladys would say... They were the kindest women I have ever met. Although I was not "family", they always made me feel as though I was. I will be praying for your family as you grieve the passing of your mother, wife, sister, aunt.
God Bless

My condolences and prayers go out to you and your family and the New Hope church family. I can say that I got saved, one of District Missionary Smith revival in 1970.(age 10) I always think highly of her and her ministries. Yes, I was one of the one who sing in the Sunshine Band. I can say that District Missionary Smith was a soul winner for Christ. Now her assignment down here is completed, she is resting until the rapture. She will truly be miss. May God Peace and Comfort be will you all.

Growing up in St. Paul C.O.G.I.C. with such a giant of a woman was a tremedous experience for me. My father, Deacon Floyd Hudgins, loved to hear Sister Smith sing and he would send many requests for Sister Geraldine Smith to sing a solo. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Smith Family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Smith & New Hope COGIC families during this your time of bereavement. Evangelist Smith was a great inspiriation to me at a very young age. She grew up in the Union Baptist Church - Virginia Beach, and used to come back to us and preach for our Women's Day Service almost every year for I don't know how long, and she "Wrecked the House" everytime!!!!! Even as a child, I had enough sense to recognize..."that lady can preach" and she could sho nuff sang as well!!!!! I remember her being with us was back in 99' and she had testified as to how she had 6 strokes, but the Lord had kept her in spite of! She didn't sing for us that year, but she brought her daughter Sharon to do the honors, and needless to say..."the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Evangelist Smith also came another time a few years later along with her church family to do our "100 Women in White or 100 Women in Hats" service (can't remember which it was). The Gatlin family also came several times after that and shared with us in song during our Family & Friends Day Celebration and you know the rest! I know that the family doesn't know me directly, but Evangelist Geraldine Gatlin-Smith touched my life in a special way, and I am left with nothing but the fondest memories of her, for she was truly a Woman of the Most High God and will be greatly missed!!!!!

Pastor Smith, the Smith Family, and the New Hope Family: Our heartfelt sympathy and loving thoughts are with you during this time of bereavement. Though we do not sorrow as others who have no hope, our hearts, nonetheless, are saddened and our spirits are grieved when a loved one transitions from this life. May you be comforted by these words of Jesus, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” During this time of sorrow and adjustment, we pray that you rest and trust in the God of comfort Who comforts us in all our tribulation.

Mother Smith was an awesome & anointed evangelist. She was a gift to us from God. When Evangelist Smith was in your presence, you knew it was time to have church. It was a pleasure knowing & experiencing the power of God through her life. She was a lover of people; she spent quality time with young people everywhere. Mother Smith took me on my first Missionary journey when I got saved in 1975 to Boston, MA to conduct a revival & that was an awesome experience. She always took time to teach, train & develop young souls for Christ. She had such an anointing that when she sang, people were healed & delivered. Surely, we will miss her presence & angelic voice, but heaven rejoices & celebrates the homecoming of a genuine warrior who paved the way for many to follow. To Pastor Smith, Gwen, Sharon, Darlene, Elvis, Carlton, Evang. Gladys Wilson, Evangelist Thelma Gatlin & Family- our prayers are with you. May God continue to strengthen you daily. We love you.

To Pastor Smith, Gwendolyn, Sharon, Elvis, Darlene, Carlton, the Wilson, Gatlin and New Hope Families:
Words can not express the fond memories that flood my mind of the many times our families shared together; whether it was in church, tent revival or in my parent's home.
Lady Geraldine, "Big Sister Sunshine", was a vibrant and joyous force to be reckoned with. I remember her infectious smile and her annointed voice that brought the church to their feet, and ultimately into a dance of praise. The "melody of love divine" was in her heart when she sung or ministered the word; because she did it as if it were her last time, everytime.
I appreciate God for giving her such a wonderful gift and annointing, and for allowing her to share it with us for a "moment". We may not hear her anymore on this side, but she continues to sing in Zion.
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of reflection, rejoicing, and sadness.

Mother Smith was a Pioneer of the Holiness Movement. She was clear example of Good Living thereby paving the way for many who would come behind her. I count it a great joy and privilage to have known. Her reputation proceeds her many settings within the Church Of God In Christ.

Her presence in the State meetings will be missed but she is now in the greatest setting of all: Resting in the Lord.

To the Smith Family: You have my heartfelt sympathy during this time of loss. If ever there was a warrior of God in the earth, it was in Miss Geraldine. I have not seen or spoken to her in more than 40 years but my memories of her are wonderful:love of God, love for every child/everyone and an anointed voice to sing and praise our Heavenly Father! Truly she will be missed but God has gained a wonderful worshipper around His throne.
