Michael McKouen Obituary

Michael G. McKouen NORFOLK - Retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Michael G. McKouen, 92, of the 1900 block of Edgewood Ave., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. Born in Detroit, Michael was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II and Korea. He also worked for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the City of Norfolk water department. Michael was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 63 years and found great satisfaction in volunteering there. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fleet Reserve Branch 60, and the Ocean View Men's Senior Golf Association and TSIGA. Michael is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marylou Helen McKouen, whom he married Nov. 1, 1946. He is also survived by a daughter, Michele Anne Baskette and husband Hugh of Norfolk, and three grandchildren, Angela, Nicole and Brockton Baskette, all of Norfolk. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Daniel Beamon officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass of the Resurrection. Arrangements are being handled by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

I will always remember Mr. Mike's smile and greeting when I walk into our church. The shuffle of his feet and always a hug. I can see him standing there with his green suit and The Lord's Prayer tie!

I know he will be at the Pearly gate doing the same thing letting everybody through.

It was a great honor knowing him! Rest in Peace, Mr. Mike!

Mickey was one of a kind who brought much laughter and love to everyone who was fortunate to meet him. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and I know he will missed.
