Harry Cologne Obituary

Harry S. Cologne VIRGINIA BEACH - Following a prolonged and valiant struggle with multiple health issues, Harry S. Cologne of Virginia Beach, born Aug. 6, 1928, quietly and peacefully past away during the evening of Dec. 7, 2009 Born in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 6, 1928, Harry enjoyed an active childhood growing up in Arlington, Va., where he graduated from Washington & Lee High School in 1946. Following graduation, Harry spent time in the Virginia National Guard and U.S. Air Force. He worked for 10 years with the Arlington County Zoning department until accepting the position of zoning administrator for the soon to be formed City of Fairfax in Northern Virginia; he worked on many efforts aimed at improving the city for 25 years until his retirement in 1986. In retirement, Harry relocated to Virginia Beach where he remained active with the Baylake Pines Civic League serving as a trustee for several years until his failing health forced him to resign from active participation. Harry is survived by his wife of more then 60 years, Jean; three children, Deborah A. Taylor and husband Leonard of Lake Ridge, Va., Harry S. Cologne Jr. and wife Dorothy of Oakton, Va., David D. Cologne and wife Kimberly of Gainesville, Va.; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Taylor, Shannon Cowan and husband John, Jennifer Taylor, Nicole Cologne, Ava Cologne, Travis Cologne, Kaitlyn Cologne, Kelsey Carl; six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Dylan, Evan and Logan Cowan, Connor and Nolan Cologne; two sisters, Dorothea Klein of Norfolk and Audre Johnson of Little River, S.C.; as well as five nieces and nephews; and two special dogs, Cleo and Chloe. All services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
