Sammie Baker Obituary

Sammie L. Baker Jr. LUMBERTON - Sammie Lee Baker Jr., 51, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Sumter County, Georgia, on Oct. 1, 1958, to Sammie Lee Baker Sr. and Bessie Long Baker. He was a United States Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Long Baker. Mr. Baker is survived by his father, Sammie Lee Baker Sr. of Lumberton, N.C.; his wife, Tina Jones Baker of the home; two sons, Uriah Ahmed Baker of El Paso, Texas, and Isaiah Zachariah Baker of Lumberton, N.C.; one daughter, Sarai Mari Baker of the home; two brothers, Russell Baker of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Lawrence Baker of Lumberton; six sisters, Barbara McKinney of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Sandra Simon of Port St. John, Fla., Debra Harvey of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Cynthia Brown of Rockledge, Fla., Karen Washington of Florida and Lori Baker of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; one half sister, Millie Poyer of Philadelphia; and one stepsister, Crystal Broxton of Raleigh, N.C. A funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 21, at 9:45 a.m. at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton with the Rev. Harrison Branch officiating. Burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, N.C. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m.
