David Phelps Obituary

David B. Phelps VIRGINIA BEACH - David B. Phelps, 44, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at his home. Dave had many hobbies. He enjoyed cars, traveling, fishing, boating and just simply piddling. Dave's family was happy when he took to fishing as we always reaped the rewards (if you know what we mean) - good eating. Dave was a person who always wore a smile on his face, a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, a person one would feel they could go to for just about anything. Dave was currently serving on active duty in the United States Navy and was planning on retiring on April 30. He served in the military for 24 years. His past duty stations were RAIMD Reserve Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Dept., HCS-4 Helicopter Combat Squadron Four, HSC-84 Helicopter Sea Combat Eighty Four, CFLSW DETNAF Commander Fleet Logistics Support Wing Detachment Naval Air Facility, Washington, D.C., S NAMTD NORVA Student Naval Aviation Maintenance Training Department Norfolk. He leaves behind his wife, Kathleen and their two children, Ryan and Joshua. He is the son of Linda and James "Jimmy" Phelps and his two brothers, Steve Phelps and Allen Phelps and his wife Sonya and their two children, Robert and Chad, all from North Carolina. He is also survived by his mother-in- law, Joyce Gallant of North Carolina; his brother-in-law, Bob Vieweg and his wife Jami and their children Steve, Michelle and Alex of North Carolina; his brother- in-law, Dan and his children Keith, Krystal and Alex of Massachusetts; his brother- in-law, Dave of Nevada; his sister-in-law, Debbie Melo and her children Fernando and Kaitlyn, and his sister-in- law, Karen and her husband Mike and their children Madison and Parker. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. We love you Dave, and you will always be missed but never forgotten. The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Greenwich Road Chapel, Friday, April 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. The service will be held Thursday, May 6 at 9 a.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. Condolences may be made to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
