David Johnson Obituary

David Stirling Johnson CHESAPEAKE - Electronics Technician Master Chief David Stirling Johnson, U.S. Navy retired, 64, of the 100 block of George Washington Hwy. S., passed away April 12, 2010 in a local hospital. A native of Lynn, Mass., he was the son of the late Albert and Eleanor Johnson. He retired from the United States Navy in 1986 as a command master chief after 23 years of service. He also retired from Philips Electronics after 23 years. He was a member of South Mills Church of Christ. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Alice Mae Johnson; his daughter, Nicole C. Clay and husband David of Chesapeake; his son, Ronald K. Johnson and wife Barbara of Groton, Conn.; two sisters, Evelyn Johnson-Moore of Acton, Mass., and Anita La Pointe of Beverly, Mass.; four grandchildren, Alan, Brian and Ciara Clay of Chesapeake and Brandon Clay of Groton, Conn.; and an aunt, Ethelyn Berry of Vero Beach, Fla. He was predeceased by a son, David M. Johnson and a brother, Douglas Johnson. An inurnment service with military honors will be held at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Friday at 2:45 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. in South Mills Church of Christ, 100 Culpepper Road, South Mills, NC 27976 with Ron Stuart officiating. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Union Mission Ministries, 110 Brooke Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510. To all of Dave's family, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Dave was my first manager when I started with Philips in Philadelphia back in 1997. I've had many managers before him, and have had many since, but Dave was the best. He was one of the good guys, and he always seemed to have a smile on his face. He will be missed.
