Edna Blassingham Obituary

Edna W. Blassingham VIRGINIA BEACH - Mrs. Edna Whitley Blassingham, 92, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Sentara Bayside Hospital. She was the wife of the late Melvin T. Blassingham Jr. of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. Monroe Whitley of Goldsboro, N.C. Mrs. Blassingham attended Peace College and East Carolina University. A longtime Norfolk resident, she volunteered for Meals On Wheels, The Chrysler Museum, Virginia Wesleyan College and Meadowbrook School. For the past 12 years she lived at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Blassingham was a good listener, a skilled pianist and gardener, a loyal friend, and a beautiful wife and mother. She was predeceased by a daughter, Leslie Blassingham Scribner of Richmond. She is survived by sisters, Daphney Gaw of Laurinburg, N.C., and Lucille Bull of Baltimore and her son, Truitt Blassingham of San Francisco. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Blassingham's loving caregivers. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 20, at 2 p.m. at Westminster Canterbury. The Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Edna, was certainly one of a kind. A fine lady, wonderful neighbor and dear friend. I've known Edna all of my life. I cherish the memories of times spent, and watching Edna and Melvin with our children, on our many visits.

Edna will always be in my heart . She was a really good listener on the W/C bus and we always had some good laughs between us. She was a wonderful friend and I will truly miss her. My condolences to you Truitt you truly had a wonderful mother Vickie Torr -Driver for W/C
