John Blaszczak Obituary

John J. Blaszczak VIRGINIA BEACH - John J. Blaszczak, D.D.S., 51, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 15, 2010. John was born in Schenectady, N.Y., April 24, 1958 to Patricia and Ted Blaszczak, now of Winter Springs, Fla. He graduated from Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville, Pa., in 1976, earned a B.S. in biology at the University of Pittsburgh in 1980, and graduated near the top of his class at Case Western Reserve University's School of Dentistry in 1984. Dr. Blaszczak moved to Virginia Beach in 1984 and interned at Saint Francis De Paul Hospital that year. He began practicing dentistry at his Holland Road office in 1985 and operated this location until his untimely passing. John earned a Fellowship in the International Congress of Implantologists. In Virginia Beach, John learned to sailboard and competitively cycled. He rode with the Tri-Power Cycling Club, most recently setting records in endurance off-road bicycling events and earning and a U.S. age-group award in 2008. John enjoyed sport and nature photography, and while riding with his team spent time taking pictures of other riders and publishing stories about regional events. John's accomplishments were outshined only by his devotion to the care of his patients. Dr. Blaszczak is survived by his parents; his sister, Deborah; his brother, Michael; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth; and his dearest friend, Barbara McKee of Newport News. A memorial service will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, 1264 Great Neck Road N., Virginia Beach, VA 23454 at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22. Family visitation will begin one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Virginia Beach SPCA, 3040 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. Dear Family and Friends,
Like Ted, I was very sad and shocked to hear today of John's passing. I will always remember the three years John and Ted and I spent together at "The 2600 Club" with great fond memories. We always pushed each other to excell, while I finished lowest of the three of us, we did not do too bad as I was still in the top 10%. We also found time to have some of the best parties.
I will always remember John's great passion for whatever he attempted. Check that, He did not attempt anything. He achieved anything he set his mind to.
Since school, I had done a poor job of staying in contact with John but I am sure he continued that passion for the care of his patients.

God bless

Dear Family and friends,

It is with great saddness and disbelief that I write this note of condolence. John will always be remembered as a fun loving, bordering on crazy (in a good way) guy with a special knack for patient care. He was the perfect roommate - except for the popcorn kernals - and I will always cherish the times at 2600 Mayfield Rd. during dental school. He will be missed by those he touched. God Bless.

Dr. Blaszczak became our family dentist when we moved to Virginia Beach in 1997. He watched our children grow into young adults. He was a very friendly and jolly person. May God Bless and keep his family at this time.
