Evelyn Blessing

Evelyn S. Blessing VIRGINIA BEACH - Evelyn Marie Sharak Blessing, 79, of the 3200 block of Sherry Court, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2010. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was a founding member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church where she served as president of the Women's Club, Home and School Guild and served in many other capacities for the church. Evelyn was the widow of CWO2 John H. Blessing, (U.S. Navy retired) and is survived by two daughters, Mary B. Gilkey and husband Charles of Norfolk and Michelle Thompson and husband Terry of Indiana; two sons, Robert S. Blessing of Texas and Michael D. Blessing and wife Melinda of Chesapeake; two sisters, Mary Grace Dorsett and Helen Miles, both of Pittsburgh; brother-in-law, Robert Ruyechan of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren, Claire Winiarek and husband Rafal of Chesapeake, Caroline Wulf and Chelsea Gilkey of Norfolk, T.J. and Krystyna Thompson of Indiana, Caleb and Makenzie Blessing of Texas and Jason Blessing of Chesapeake; and a daughter-in-law, Joanne C. Blessing of Norfolk. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joann M. Blessing and a son, John R. Blessing. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a wake at 6 p.m. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
