Patricia Inman Obituary

Patricia M. Inman NORFOLK - Patricia Morton Inman passed on from this life to one of everlasting peace during the night of April 29, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Pat was born Oct. 27, 1952 in Washington, D.C., to her parents Dr. Robert and Eloise Morton who survive her. She is also survived by her sister, Dr. Connie Kevorkian and husband Jerry; her brother, Alan Morton and wife Susan- Elise; her brother, Larry Morton; and her brother, Jim Morton and wife Rosemary. She is also survived by nieces, Sarah Carroll, Caia Kevorkian, Catie Morton and Grace Morton as well as her nephew, Craig Kevorkian. Pat was a graduate of Maury High School and attended Meredith College in Raleigh. She worked at the Community Mental Health Service in Norfolk as a case manager for some years before moving to a managerial position at the Naval Supply Center in 1981 where she helped design, install and manage a computer area network serving the U.S. Navy. She received numerous awards and commendations from the Navy Supply Information Activity. After retiring from the civil service she managed two different message boards for national online firms, Web MD.com and Edmonds.com from her home computer. In recent months her health was ravaged by scleroderma which ultimately took its toll. Her life will be celebrated by a memorial service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. with Father Daniel Klem officiating. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the capital campaign at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 520 Graydon Ave., Norfolk, VA 23507 or the Norfolk SPCA. Ready or not,
someday it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises,
no minutes, hours or days.

All the things you collected,
whether treasured or forgotten,
will pass to someone else.

Your wealth,
fame and temporal power
will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned
or what you were owed.

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations,
and jealousies will finally disappear.

So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans,
and to-do lists will expire.

The wins and losses
that once seemed so important
will fade away.

It won't matter where you came from,
or on what side of the tracks you lived,
at the end.

It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.

Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter?
How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought,
but what you built;
not what you got,
but what you gave?

What will matter is not your success,
but your significance.

What will matter is not what you learned,
but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity,
compassion,
courage or sacrifice that enriched,
empowered or encouraged others
to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence,
but your character.

What will matter is not how many people you knew,
but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone.

What will matter is not your memories,
but the memories that live in those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered,
by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident.
It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice.

Choose to live a life that matters.

Pat did.

I had the pleasure of knowing Pat for over ten years while working together online at Edmunds.com I admired her greatly for her ability to solve problems under fire, her methodical nature and her absolute perfection when it came to grammar. She brought humor and her unique quips to the job which I still hold dear.

We shared many laughs about work, dogs, marriage, family and basketball. March Madness will never be the same without Pat and her commentary on the Lady Vols or the U-Conn team. Old Dominion is lucky to have a cheerleader like her on their side!

Pat is in our thoughts and prayers and her absence leaves a large gap. We miss you Pat.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. I lived next door to Pat for over 25 years. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She was there for my sisters and me, when my mother passed. When ever I traveled, she was the person who cared for my cat Lucky. Pat was a true animal lover. She will be missed.

I worked with Pat at DISA PE Norfolk (Norfolk Naval Supply Center) for over 20 years and what a dear friend and co-worker she was. We laughed a lot and shared some wonderful stories about our families and her dogs. Her dogs were her children, and she shared the funniest stories about Mollie Brown and Carmen. She loved all her dogs dearly! I will always remember her willingness to share knowledge and pushing you to the max! She was hard, but determined to make you the best!

To the family, I will continue to keep you in my prayers.

Through the last five years in which I posted in forums that were hosted by Pat, I learned how professional and fully devoted to her job she acted, whilst I was impressed by her tender-hearted and genuinely curious and compassionate nature. I will miss her.

My condolences and sympathy to her family and friends.

Although I had just two occasions to meet with Pat face to face, I was in daily conversation with her via instant message for many years. She was a wonderful, kind and supportive person to work with and I am proud to have considered as one of my very close friends. Pat was one-of-a-kind and she will be missed terribly.
