My condolences to the family,
I am a friend of Zene. We both served in the Marine Corps. I knew Mr. Fearing Sr. only through visits at the family house or Nags Head. I never knew he was an educator and coach. It turns out he had a great deal in common with my father. Much Aloha,

To The Family and Friends Of Coach Fearing - 10 May 2010
It is said that those teachers remembered are the ones who had the most impact on a student's school career. Mister Fearing was one teacher who falls into that catagory in my case. I have lived in California for many years but my brother in Portsmouth had just spoken of Mister Fearing and now the news reaches the opposite coast. Mister Fearing was a good man, a teacher who had the student's best interest at heart and a person who always made a student feel that his accomplishment, however small, was a major event. He was stern when necessary, but understanding when the occassion arose. I still miss hear his booming voice across the CHS practice field and the question he often asked "What are you thinking? Now get over here and explain it to me!" I will remember him as a positive influence in my life. William (Billy) Fell (Portsmouth,VA and VacaVille,CA)

It was with extreme sadness that I learned of Coach Fearing's passing. He was an excellent role model for those with whom he worked and coached. His work ethic and ability to inspire members of our 1957-58 football teams at Churchland High School contributed immensely to my success in life.

I was saddened to hear of the death of Coach Fearing. I was a student at Churchland High School in the late 50s and early 60s, Class of 1962, and Coach Fearing, as we all called him, was my gym teacher and football coach. Along with Coach Joe Smith and Coach Jack Wayland, we were taught and guided by some of the best teachers and coaches of that time. Coach Fearing's quick smile, and even quicker sneer when you did something wrong, was always a reminder of his concern for all of his students. He was a great teacher and anyone who was his student will remember with kindness their time spent under the guidance with Coach Fearing. May our Heavenly Father bless Coach Ellie Fearing and his family during this time of their loss. David Fell, Class of '62

My best memory of Coach Fearing was the day of the BIG lightning bolt. We were gathered at the end of the track near High St. ready to run the 100 yard dash. I remember Coach Fearing picking up a stick holding it over his head and started the count. On your mark get ready, get set and then BOOM! A huge lightning bolt went right over heads and we all hit the ground and the lightning hit a big tree behind us and caught it on fire. I believe the paint on the flag pole got fried and some of the front school windows broke. If I could ask him I'm sure he would remember that day. Coach you will be sorely missed. Ray Minton

Being a player under coach Fearing was one of my greatest experiences. I can not express the the positive impact he had on my life. I played a round of golf with the coach a few years ago, I am glad to have had that experience. Thanks Coach, God Bless.

In my five years at Churchland I never heard Coach Fearing utter one curse word, and believe me the football team gave him plenty of reasons to curse.
I learned a great deal from him. He taught me the value of hard work and persistence. I 'll never forget the night after Churchland beat Wilson for the first time . Someone offered him a ride back to Churchland, and he answered, " No thanks, I want to be on the bus with the team, We have never ridden back to Churchland from Wilson as winners". He was above all the consumate gentleman, and I will never forget him. God bless Coach Ellie Fearing and all who love him.

It's been over 30 years since I graduated from Deep Creek High
Mr. Fearing was my favorite teacher of all times.
He was so much fun, but when he was mad he was mad.
I learned alot of work ethics from his class.
He loved talking about his family, Elizabeth City and Nags Head.
I enjoyed running in to him and wife every once in while he always
remember you and he would get caught up in your life to see what
was happening.
Rest In Peace Mr. Fearing you will always be remembered and
amired.
