Edward Smith Obituary

Edward William Smith VIRGINIA BEACH - Edward W. Smith, 37, passed away May 9, 2010 in his parents' loving home in Virginia Beach. Edward was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Reidsville, N.C. and a loyal employee of Pactiv Corporation, Greensboro, N.C. Edward loved the Lord! He was a loving husband, father, son, and grandson and will be deeply missed. Edward loved being a father to his son, Noah Edward Smith, who he has joined in heaven along with his niece, Madison Funk. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Smith; her parents, Alex and Elsie Cabigon; his parents, Edward and Vicki Smith; his twin sister, Carri McQuerrey-Funk; his brothers-in-law, Wallace Funk Jr., Alexander Cabigon Jr., Craig Derrenbacher; his sisters- in-law, Pam Derrenbacher and Courtney Cabigon; his nephews, Tyler McQuerrey, Alexander Funk, Jacob Cabigon, Thomas Derrenbacher, Ashdon Cabigon and his niece, Ellie Funk, all of Virginia Beach; grandparents, Jane Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Delores Allen of Walkerton, Ind., and Joyce Pence of Deland, Fla.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other special relatives and friends, especially No. 2 (Diane King, who relocated to Virginia Beach from Baltimore to help care for Ed 24/7), No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 and Jo-Jo. A special "Thank you" to the Heartland Hospice staff in Virginia Beach who did a tremendous job in making Edward very comfortable in his final days. Sincere appreciation is also expressed to the wonderful medical team at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center and the J. Paul Sticht Rehabilitation Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 11, in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, in Tidewater Baptist Temple, 1316 Campostella Road, Chesapeake. Interment will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your preferred cancer research charity. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. I am so very sorry for your loss.
I pray that God will help you all with the greiving process.
I see Ed and Noah playing and running as every dad and son should. I see them playing with Chloe Sue and looking down on us all. I still have Noah's voice on the answering machine and will always remember Ed talking with me after losing Noah.
Juanita, this is more than most people should ever endure in their life. Please know I pray for your peace and comfort. Keep the faith.
