Joseph Godwin Obituary

Joseph L. Godwin PORTSMOUTH - Joseph L. Godwin, 91, of Gillis Road, passed away peacefully at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Thursday, May 20, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Godwin. Born Nov. 9, 1918 in Columbia, N.C., he was the son of the late Phillip and Ginny Godwin. Joe was a World War II veteran before graduating from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He retired as a CPA. A longtime Tarheel supporter, he is survived by his son, Wallace Godwin and wife Patty of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Joseph C. Godwin and Lynnie Fand, wife of Damon; and one great -grandchild, Macy Grace Fand. The family would like to thank Heather, his dear friend and caretaker for many loving years. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Meadowbrook Memorial Mausoleum by the Rev. Frances Craig. I SEND MY CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY. HE WILL BE MISSED.
I STARTED WORKING FOR JOE GODWIN IN THE FALL OF 1966 IN MY SENIOR YEAR. WALLY GODWIN WAS IN MY GRADUATION CLASS. I CONTINUED WORKING FOR JOE GODWIN UNTIL FEBRUARY 1976. HE WAS A GOOD CHRISTIAN AND A THOUGHTFUL MAN AND HE IS IN HIS GLORY NOW.
