Mary Picou Obituary

Mary Lee Harang Picou VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Lee Harang Picou passed away May 21, 2010 peacefully in her home with family by her side. Born 1930 on Valentine Plantation near Lockport, La., she was the daughter of Warren J. Harang Sr. of New Orleans, La., and Winifred E. Foret Harang of Thibodaux, La. The youngest of five children, Mary Lee graduated from Lockport High School and attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. As the wife of Wally J. Picou, M.D., of Houma, La., she assisted his medical practice and was a member of the Terrebonne Parish Women's Medical Auxiliary. The family moved to Virginia Beach in 1970 when Dr. Picou joined the emergency room staff at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk. Her parents, husband, and four siblings, Warren J. Harang Jr., Winifred Harang Kozelsky, Donald F. Harang, and Catherine Harang Gouaux, preceded her in death. She is survived by her four daughters, Rebecca A. Picou (spouse of Thomas J. Hamilton) of Fairfax, Va., Mary Lee "Tita" Picou of Virginia Beach, Robin A. Picou of Orange Beach, Ala., and Lori A. Picou of Los Angeles, Calif.; along with two granddaughters, Natalia E. Gimenez-Picou and Eliska L. Gimenez-Picou of Virginia Beach; and a great-granddaughter, Madeleine Sophia. A local memorial service will be held today, May 23, at 2 p.m. at the Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 529 Providence Road, Chesapeake, with Dr. Ken Barnes officiating. Memorial contributions may be offered to the church. A funeral in Louisiana is also planned.
