Gladys Flowers Obituary

Gladys M. Flowers VIRGINIA BEACH - Gladys M. Flowers, 86, went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2010. She was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Benson, N.C., the daughter of the late Milton and Nola Allen. Gladys was a homemaker, devoting herself to her family. Her favorite past time was watching baseball, NASCAR, bowling with friends and fishing with her husband. Gladys was a member of Bayside Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, James "Pete" Flowers; brother, Mac; sisters, Ollie, Eloise and Christine and a grandson, Lou Taylor. Gladys will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, G. Fae Taylor and Marie F. Hale, both of Virginia Beach; sons, James R. Flowers of Chesapeake and Jimmy W. Flowers of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren, Robert Flowers of Ellicott City, Md., Joseph Hale and David Hale of Big Island, Va., Marlissee Orlang of Reunion, Fla., Donald Taylor, Teresa Dilbeck, Jeremy, Brian, Jason and Nathan Flowers of Virginia Beach and Rebecca Garrett of Lynchburg, Va.; and 17 great-grandchildren. The family would like to send a special thanks to caregivers "Rosie" Patterson and "Pinky" Hanchard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach by Pastor Mark Pullen.
