Timothy Kavanaugh Obituary

Timothy Kavanaugh Sr. NORFOLK - Timothy Michael Kavanaugh Sr., 52, son of Edward H. Kavanaugh Sr. of Smithfield and the late Eileen Gunn Kavanaugh, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010, at The Chesapeake Home For Adults, where he was a patient for several years. Timmy was born and raised in Norfolk, an Ocean View boy who attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, graduated from Eastern Academy and attended Old Dominion University. He traveled throughout the United States with his family as a successful executive for various large fencing companies, spending many years in Phoenix, Austin, Los Angeles and Jacksonville, Fla. Timmy was a talented surfer who loved the beach and spent much of his free time there. He was an avid music lover and a huge Notre Dame fan whose good looks and sense of humor made him well loved by so many. Like his brother, Daniel Joseph Kavanaugh, who predeceased him only last year; he was taken far too soon. Besides his father, he is survived by his son, Timothy Michael Kavanaugh Jr. of Norfolk and a daughter, Molly Katherine Kavanaugh of Jacksonville; a stepson, Chad Kavanaugh; his sister, Eileen K. Meusel and her husband Robert of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Edward H. Kavanaugh Jr. and his partner Jen Croft of Southern Shores, N.C., Patrick Welsh Kavanaugh and his wife Georgette of Norfolk and John W. Kavanaugh and his partner Efren Gonzalez of Los Angeles; a sister-in-law, Beth D. Kavanaugh of Virginia Beach; five aunts, Harriett Gunn Smith of Virginia Beach, Jean Gunn O'Berry of Huffman, Texas, Carolyn G. Gunn of Smithfield, Nancy C. Query and Ann W. Kavanaugh of Norfolk; six nieces and nephews, Curtis P. Kavanaugh and Ryan W. Kavanaugh of Norfolk, Robert W. Meusel Jr. and Colin P. Meusel of Virginia Beach, Kirby M. Carter of Rhode Island, and Thomas Kavanaugh of Virginia Beach; as well as almost forty first cousins. The family will receive friends today, June 9, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, and a memorial service will held there the following day, June 10, at 11 a.m. The family wishes to thank the remarkable caregivers at The Chesapeake Home for Adults whose generous and loving attention made Timmy's last years more peaceful. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to save the bay at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, attn: Membership Department, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD, 21403 or online at www.cbf.org. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon- brown.com.

John and the rest of the Kavanaugh clan please know that I am thinking of you and your family in what has seemed like un-ending trouble and heart ache for the past few years. I am one of the "off-shoot" cousins. Mary Kavanaugh Anderson was my mom and I lived the first 7 years of my life with Poppa at 1236 Clarke Ave in Roanoke. If you have read any of John's postings on Face Book you know that my humor is pretty skewed (Church would call it DIRTY) but as the saying goes, I only tease the ones I like. Take care and just try and remember "the good times".

So very sorry to hear of this loss. I attended EA/BA from 1976-1980. I knew the Kavanaugh family as a very supportive and loving family. Make those bonds even stronger with each other as you comfort one another during this time. Tim will be sorely missed among his classmates, family and friends. Prayers to all!

I am so sorry to hear about Tim. We have spent many fun times with him, in Arizona, then in Texas and on to Florida. He was the greatest guy and father to his children when we were around him. Timmy & Molly and Chad always remember the fun times with your dad, that is how I will remember him. He was too young to go so early but now he is in a better place. Thoughts and prayers to all of his family, I know they will miss his witty self..
