Edward Bridgers Sr.

Edward Lee Bridgers Sr. PORTSMOUTH - Edward Lee Bridgers Sr., 76, of the 4000 block of Leedale Ave., departed this life June 10, 2010. Born in Portsmouth, he was employed with the federal government until his retirement. He was a member of Jerusalem United Holy Church, where he was one of the fathers of the church and a member of the usher board. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He predeceased by his son, Larry Bridgers and his grandson, Lawrence Pender. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Bertha M. Bridgers of Portsmouth; two daughters, Patricia Gilchrist (Tim) of Maryland and Teresa Baskins (Terry) of Portsmouth; one son, Edward L. Bridgers Jr. (Renita) of Chesapeake; one brother, William Bridgers (Clintoria) of Maryland; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem United Holy Church. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park.
