Benita Hawkins Obituary

Benita Lizette Hawkins PORTSMOUTH - Benita Lizette Hawkins, 39, formerly of the Belvedere section of Churchland, passed away June 15, 2010 in Huntsville, Ala. Born in Portsmouth, she was a former member of Noble St. Baptist Church, Portsmouth. She was a graduate of Churchland High School, Class of 1987 and earned a degree in organizational management with a minor in psychology from University of Colorado in 1997. She is survived by three sons, Derek Adamson of Hampton, Richard M. Hawkins Jr. and Emanuel A. Hawkins, both of Huntsville, Ala.; mother, Dr. Barbara L. Johnson and father, J.R. Johnson, both of Elizabeth City; biological father, Bishop Benjamin Adamson Jr. of Portsmouth; former husband, Richard M. Hawkins Sr., of Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Benee L. Adamson of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Benjamin Adamson III (Angelia) of Rocky Mount, Va.; a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. A graveside funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Suffolk, with Bishop D. Stefan Adams presiding. Family will assemble at Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, at 10 a.m. today. www.fisherfuneral.com.
