Wilbur Groome

Wilbur Groome VIRGINIA BEACH - Wilbur "Ray" Groome, 75, went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2010 in his home. A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Forrest and Pauline Groome. He was a Navy veteran and a retired aviation structural mechanic. He was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara H. Groome; four daughters, Cynthia Ralph and husband Wayne, Cathryn May and husband Richard, Christina Sloop and husband Kevin and Carolyn Groome; seven grandchildren, Sara, Rebecca, Sondra, Richard, William, Melissa and Devin; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Rose Mary Groome; a niece, Tracy Roth and husband James and their two children; a nephew, Christopher Groome and fiancée Niki; and an aunt, Helen Gober. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Groome and stepfather, Lawrence Hallet. A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at London Bridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Brinson officiating. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, today from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to London Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund.
