Aldor Payette Obituary

Aldor J. Payette Jr. CHESAPEAKE - Aldor Joseph Payette Jr., 81, passed away July 13, 2010 at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Born Oct. 23, 1928 in Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Aldor Joseph Sr. and Maude Marie Mitchell Payette. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Mellinger and his brother, Thomas Payette. He was an active member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Virginia Beach and he also attended Oaklette United Methodist Church with his wife where he participated in church activities with her. Throughout his military career, he served his country four years with the U.S. Navy, 20 years with the U.S. Air Force, and retired with the Virginia Defense Force. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, R. Lucille Payette; his children, Aldor Joseph "Chip" Payette III of Richmond, Lucille Gutterman of Reno, Nev.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane, Virginia Beach celebrated by Father John Abe. Burial with military honors will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach with the wake at 6 p.m. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.altmeyer.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Matthew's Catholic Church or to Oaklette United Methodist Church, 520 Oaklette Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23325.
