Otelia Walker Obituary

Otelia M. Walker PORTSMOUTH - Otelia M. Walker, 85, of the 2800 block of Chancellor St., died Aug. 29, 2010. She was born in Boydton, Va., to the late Willie Morse and Sallie Young Morse. She worked at P&W Laundry before becoming a homemaker and a senior citizen volunteer at Joseph Parker Recreation Center. She was a faithful and active member of Mount Nebo RZUA Church for more than 60 years where she served as president of the Deaconess Board, member of the Missionary Board, past Senior Choir member and Foodbank coordinator. Otelia was very active in her community and was a member of the Mount Hermon Improvement Foundation. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Archer Walker; sisters and brother, Alice Murray, Lula Gregory, and Leroy Morse. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Barbara J. Thompson (Michael) of Fontana, Calif., and Paulette W. Newsome of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, John Thompson Jr., Rahman Thompson, both of Fontana and Wayne M. Newsome of Portsmouth; five great- grandchildren, one brother, Randolph Morse of Boydton; one stepsister, Anna Mae Oliver of New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. in Mount Nebo RZUA Church with the Rev. Theodore Lewis Jr. presiding. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge. Special thanks to Robert J. Accettola, MD and Stanley Brittman, MD.
