Walter Novak Obituary

Walter L. Novak Sr. CHESAPEAKE - Walter Lawrence Novak Sr., 71, of the 1300 block of Virginia Ave., passed away Aug. 30, 2010. A native of Baltimore, he was a Marine veteran and retired as vice president of the service department at Checkered Flag Motor Car Company. Raised in the Portlock section of Chesapeake, he loved music and was an avid musician. Surviving are his wife, Theo Marie Novak; a daughter, Daina Harris; two sons, Pete Novak and Ben Novak; a stepson, Russell Newhart; a brother, Joseph Novak; a granddaughter, Betsy Harris; and a grandson, Joe-Joe Harris. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a funeral at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ernest Trueblood officiating. Private burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. I first met Walter when he was a Jaguar mechanic at Checkered Flag and about a year after I took over as GM I asked him to be our service manager. It was a pleasure to work with him for the next decade. Annabel and I send our sincere condolences to the family.
