Bernice was a lovely friend. We were saddened to learn of her passing. She was a great schoolmate, neighbor, daughter, mother, and grandmother. We remember her fondly.

Your mom had a great personality. I talked with her daily throughout the years with our jobs. I use to always thank her for being so pleasant and down to earth. I really missed her when she retired from VDOT. She was a bright gem. Goodbye Momma, Miss bad to the bone!

Bernice use to get to work a hour before her shift started and go into the kitchen and start making the coffee. I would go into the kitchen to talk to her and I'd ask her before she would ask me, "What'ca up too" and she would smile and say, "I'm Bad to the Bone". Maybe she thought she was bad to the bone, but her heart was made of gold. Bernice, Cora and I formed a special friendship, we were gambling bubblies, we went to concerts, shows and even birthday dinners together. They were like the mother's I wish I had and I loved them both very much. Bernice was always buying me something, especially for my new house and offered to paint my house. Bernice was a special person who treat everyone the same. She love to cook for her fellow employees, the state police and even the inmates on work release. She made me feel special and I'll always miss our long talks and her wisdom she share with me. She thought the world of her family. She was so proud of them. I miss you so much. God please take care of our special angel.

All of you know her as Bernice, I knew her as "Tootie". I remember when she first came to work @VDOT; we spent many years together, working, laughing, crying, and just helping each other out. She has been and always will be one of the most treasured friends I have. We offer our sincere sympathy to her family. I am going to remember the good times, and her laugh, and I am going to celebrate her life. God puts people in our paths for a reason, I was lucky enough to have her in my path! She suffers no more, and now is in God's loving arms. Boy, He sure got a good one this time! We love you, "Tootie".

Bernice was very devoted to Kim, Karen and Shane, I was with her almost everyday for over twenty years. We laughed a lot, cried a little. We put together bicycles, at Christmas, were co-workers, but most of all, she was and will always be my friend. The girls always called to speak to their "Mom", even after growing up. No one will ever grin at me and say, "What you up too?" The amazing thing, she really wanted to know and cared. She will always be part of my life, that will not ever go away. " Murray"
