Joseph Ring

Joseph M. Ring VIRGINIA BEACH - Joseph Mathias Ring, 82, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Mr. Ring was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Elizabeth (Craig) Ring and parents, John Joseph Ring and Ida Helen (Novotny) Ring. Joe was born in Wisconsin, beginning work on his family's dairy farm at a very young age. Five years after graduating from New Lisbon High School, Joe joined the U.S. Navy. He proudly served 20 years, obtaining the rank of chief petty officer. After retiring from the Navy, Joe continued his career in the food services industry. He was an avid ceramics artisan; he enjoyed giving away his creations to many friends and family members. Joe and Mary never had children; however, they had many beloved dogs! Joe was a longtime parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Fleet Reserve organizations. Joe will be greatly missed by several generations of cousins, nieces, nephews, from his and his wife's family, as well as many dear friends. A memorial service will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church Friday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. Graham Funeral Home in Chesapeake is handling his request to be cremated. His remains will be interred with his wife at a late date at Glen Kirk Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro, Va. His family would like to thank Dr. Fleming and his staff at Virginia Oncology for their care of Joe in the past year, the staff at Bay Pointe Nursing Facility in Virginia Beach, as well as Odyssey Hospice HealthCare. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church or to a charity of one's choice.
