Katrine Parker Obituary

Katrine Collie Parker VIRGINIA BEACH - Katrine Collie Parker, 91, passed away in Virginia Beach Sept. 4, 2010. She was born Aug. 6, 1919 in Spring Hope, N.C., to Peyton Nicholas Collie and Martha Sykes Collie. She married Robert Carey Parker in 1943, and he predeceased her in 1976. Survivors include two sons, Phillip H. Parker and his wife Cecelia S. Parker of Louisburg, N.C., and Carey R. Parker and his wife Gail M. Parker of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Robert H. Parker and his wife Maureen A. Parker of Raleigh and Kimberly P. McHose and her husband Christopher A. McHose of Williamsburg; one great-grandson, Bryce P. McHose; and one sister, Alice Davis of Stockton, Mo. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Bessie Brantley, Thelma Brogden, Erminea Taylor, and two brothers, Earl Collie and Rudolph Collie. Mrs. Parker received a bachelor's degree from East Carolina Teacher's College (now East Carolina University), Greenville, N.C., and taught in Northampton County, North Carolina public schools for 29 years. She lived most of her adult life in Rich Square, N.C. She was an active member, Sunday school teacher, and deaconess at Rich Square Baptist Church. In 1999, Mrs. Parker moved to Atria Virginia Beach, a retirement community, where she enjoyed an active life for 11 years. During her later years, she became an avid reader, and she enjoyed watching baseball whenever there was a game on TV. The funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at Rich Square Baptist Church. After the burial, those who wish may visit with the family at the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Rich Square Baptist Church, Rich Square, NC 27869, or a favorite charity. Burial will be at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square. Arrangements are being handled by Sykes Funeral Service of Rich Square and online condolences may be directed to the family at www.sykesfuneralservice. com.
