S. Whitley Obituary

S. Elton Whitley BRANCHVILLE - Samuel Elton "Dick" Whitley, 85, died Sept. 5, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Dick was born in Nash County, North Carolina and was a retired sawer. He was predeceased by his wives, Paraleigh Joyner Whitley and Ellen Drewett Whitley. He was a former member of the Branchville Town Council and was a member of Margarettsville Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda W. Mashtare; a stepdaughter, Tammy Flythe; three grandchildren, Jo Ann Worthy, Hillary Flythe and Russell Flythe; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Alma Moss; and two brothers, Wilmer and Buck Whitley. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Nashville, N.C. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Norfolk, VA 23502. www.wrightfuneralhome.org

Dick will be missed by all. He served the town and community well. He was my fathers expert and later became one of mine. If he didn't know the answer to a problem he would study it until he did. I'm sorry Elaine and I will not be able to attend, she has chemo both days. We'll both remember him, she loved the Volkswagen he rebuilt for her and I loved setting in his office listening to his music or about how he was going to make his latest creation better.
