Virginia Harrell Obituary

Virginia S. Harrell VIRGINIA BEACH - Virginia Dare Saunders Lane Harrell, 92, of the 4700 block of Christopher Arch, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Edenton, N.C., on Oct. 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Octavius and Isabelle Twine Saunders and was the wife of the late Clarence W. Lane and the late Carl R. Harrell. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Mrs. Harrell is survived by her sons, Clarence L. Lane and wife Nancy of Elizabeth City, N.C., Douglas Lane and wife Gladys of Camden, N.C., and Ricky Lane and wife Rebecca of Angier, N.C.; her daughter, Linda Diane Lane O'Neal of Virginia Beach; her sister, Lois Layden; her stepson, Carl R. Harrell Jr.; five grandchildren, Clarence Lane Jr., Jeffrey Lane, Randy Lane, Amanda Lane and Tammy Meads; 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bertie Ward, Wessie Bass, Hilda Thompson, Eunice Boyce, Emily Propes and Jarvis Saunders. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Stewart P. Conrad for the care and love given during her illness; also special thanks to Lorraine, Pat, Julia, and Kathleen with Odyssey Health Care & Hospice for their wonderful help and care. A funeral will be held Thursday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Dr. David Turner officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the service.
