Lucy Keys Obituary

Lucy Freeman Keys PORTSMOUTH - Lucy Freeman Keys, 83, died Sept. 5, 2010 in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. She was born in Lewiston-Woodville, N.C., to the late Robert and Lucy Watson Freeman. She was the widow of James C. Keys. Mrs. Keys was a lifelong member of Celestial Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Survivors include grandson, Anthony (Carla) of Maryland; daughter-in-law, Linda D. Keys of Chesapeake; sisters, Ada Godwin of Portsmouth and Doris Taylor of Philadelphia; and sister-in-law, Margaret Freeman of Washington, D.C. Mrs. Keys is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son, retired Sgt. Maj. William B. Keys; brothers, retired Master Sgt. Alfred D. Freeman and James Freeman; sisters, Estelle Ward and Elizabeth Freeman. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Celestial Baptist Church, Portsmouth. The Rev. Leon J. Boone will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin today at noon. The family would like to sincerely thank Mrs. Pamela Toms, dedicated caretaker of Mrs. Keys, for her many acts of kindness rendered. Also the family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Care of Portsmouth for their care of Mrs. Keys. Family and friends will assemble at Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, for the procession to the church.
