Evelyn Owens

Evelyn Owens VIRGINIA BEACH - Evelyn Owens, 69, passed away peacefully Sept. 6, 2010. She was predeceased by her father, Zadoke A. Melson. She is survived by her mother, Annie S. Melson of Powells Point, N.C. She also is survived by her husband, David W. Owens and four children, Sharon Owens Carroll of Outer Banks, N.C., Bryan Keith Owens, Todd and Kimberly Owens, and Mark Edward Owens, all of Virginia Beach; one brother, Zadoke "Butch" Melson and one sister, Cloey Aydlett. She was dearly loved by her grandchildren, Brittney Lynn Carroll, Ashley Amber Holland, Jessica Morgan Carroll, Bryan Leigh Owens, Lauren Scott Owens, Grace Ann Owens, and one loving great-granddaughter, Illiana Nevaeh Jarvegui. She was one of the first female magistrates, serving the city of Virginia Beach for more than 28 years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Altmeyer-Maestas Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. A service will be held at the same location at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, following the graveside service at Princess Anne Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
