Paul Brengle

Paul S. Brengle SOUTHERN SHORES - Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Paul S. Brengle, 93, a long time resident of Southern Shores, died Sept. 2, 2010 at Sentara Nursing Facility-Currituck of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline, who died Aug. 1, 2009. Col. Brengle was born and raised in the Frederick, Md., area and after acquiring a BA in education taught in the Greenbelt, Md., school system. At the onset of World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a bomber pilot. He went on to a distinguished 26-year military career, obtaining an MBA and serving in various administrative command posts in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from military service in 1968 and moved with his wife, Angie, to the Southern Shores area in 1969. He taught math and science at Kitty Hawk Elementary School for five years, and was later involved in the formation of the Southern Shores Civic Association and in the incorporation process of the Town of Southern Shores. Paul was the very epitome of the phrase "an officer and a gentleman," and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In accordance with his wishes, there was no viewing or formal service.
