Nellie Childers Obituary

Nellie R. Childers VIRGINIA BEACH - Nellie Rae Dilday Childers, 90, of the 200 block of Bowman Road, went to be with the Lord Sept. 9, 2010. A native of Ahoskie, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Seth and Allie Mitchell Dilday and retired from the Virginia Beach Office of the Treasurer after 15 years of service. She was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church and its Dorcas Bible Class. Surviving are her husband, Edwin R. "Ed" Childers Sr.; a daughter, Joanne Childers Burbage of Virginia Beach; a son, E. Robert "Bob" Childers Jr. and his wife Rene of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Laura Pryor, Leanne Godley, Brian Burbage, Kevin Childers and Courtney Garrett; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Allie Mitchell Fowler of New Bern, N.C., and Nancy Dupree of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Kempsville Baptist Church with Dr. Kelly Burris officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Kempsville Baptist Church, 5204 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. At www.grahamfuneralhome.com, her "Book of Memories" will be available where you may light a candle or leave a note to the family.
