Bruce Rice Obituary

Bruce Rice VIRGINIA BEACH - Bruce Rice, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sept. 9, 2010 in his daughter's home. He was born to Georgia Rice Jan. 24, 1916 in Elizabeth City, N.C. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Jocelyn M. Rice. Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Jocelyn R. Saddler; son, BruceM. Rice (Maxine); grandchildren, Jocelyn and Michael Saddler and Bruce, Brian and Christopher Rice; sister, Maxine Banks; and nieces, nephews and friends. He was among the first group of 26 college students to be awarded a four-year degree from Elizabeth City State Teachers College on May 19, 1939. He was truly an outdoorsman and enjoyed being around family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at St. John's AME Church, 545 East Bute St., Norfolk, with the Rev. John Burton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Rice will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Bruce & Jocelyn:

I was sorry to hear about the lost of your father. May God comfort you during this time. I wish I could be there with you for the service. I am praying for the entire family. Look up into the hills for all of the strength you need comes from above. Thank God for the preicoius memories that can never be lost.
