Put off too long in searching for Happy. Sad to learn of his passing.
Happy made sails for my single handed one design Seahawk. I always credited him with my success with that boat.
Great memories. RIP Happy.

To the Family, Friends, and Employees of Happy Hogshire,
I first met Happy when I was 16, working at Staunton Paint & Wallpaper in Staunton, VA. Happy walked in the store introduced himself, asked me my name, and I got the manager for him. He always remembered my name. Even then he was like an old friend. One of my jobs there was the awning portion of the business, so we always had that to talk about, and how he liked to talk.
I was about 24 when the store closed and I started Blue Ridge Awning Service. Happy helped me make that a reality. I was and still am a small, no a very small dealer with Hogshires. But the way he did business with me you would have thought I was doing a million dollars a year with him. He always had time to answer questions and always had I sincere interest in me and my family. When he would call I knew it was him in an instant. You couldn’t mistake that friendly Norfolk accent. The only problem I had was getting off the phone with him and him with me. He always lived up to his nickname Happy. After all these years I honestly thought that Happy was part of his name.
Happy has been good friend for the past 38 years. In all of our years of doing business I never knew him to be angry or speak badly of anyone. He was a fine Christian gentleman and as honest and ethical a business man as they come. It’s hard to find guys like him anymore.
I have lost a very good friend, and the world has lost a really great guy.
My condolences to all,
C. Curtis Sheffer

Family of Happy Hogshire,
Happy was a well respected acquaintence of mine and I very much admired his honesty, integrity, and character; though I express gratitude for all of his hard work and efforts, I cannot find the words to properly express my sincere sorrow for your loss and the loss to the community of his friends and business associates.
