Jean Krail Obituary

Jean G. Krail VIRGINIA BEACH - Jean G. Krail, 69, beloved mother of Jeanne Krail West passed away peacefully holding her daughter's hand Sept. 16, 2010 at Sentara Leigh Hospital. Born in Astoria, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Jack and Jean Guddat and the widow of retired Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Jack Burkhardt Krail. Mrs. Krail retired after 40 years as an instructor and lab manager with the Chemistry Dept. at Norfolk State University. She served as the past president for the Tidewater Alliance of Chemistry Teachers as well as a current member of the Hermitage Garden Club. She continued her love of teaching science by volunteering at Thoroughgood Elementary School. Jean was a strong supporter of the fine arts and frequently attended the Virginia Symphony, the Virginia Stage Company, the Virginia Opera and the Chrysler Museum. Jean and her daughter, Jeanne, were avid world travelers and she will be sorely missed. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Krail West; son-in-law, Neil West of Virginia Beach; brothers, Joseph Guddat and John Guddat, Joe's wife Tina, John's wife Marge; niece, Tina Marie, her husband Jimmy; nephews, Joe, his wife Isabelle, Steven, his partner Torrey, Doug and John. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. in the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. She will join her husband in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Virginia Symphony or Heifer International. Jeanne, I am so sorry about your mother's passing. I just found out and again I am sorry for not being there to pay my respects. She was truly a wonderful lady and will be missed.
