Betty Sykes Obituary

Betty I. Sykes PORTSMOUTH - Betty Irene Sykes, 74, of the 1400 block of Des Moines Ave., entered into eternal rest Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Mrs. Sykes was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Sykes; her son, Tony A. Moore; a daughter, Veronica K. Moore; one sister, Barbara Jean Dowell; one stepsister, Elnora M. Simpson; one special cousin, Wanda "Peggy" Jones. Left to cherish her memory are her six daughters, Wanda Matthews (Joseph) of Beaverton, Ore., Darlene Heard, Carolyn Wood, Daisie Moore, Joann Small (of the home), all of Portsmouth and Joyce Howes (John) of Virginia Beach; one son, Henry Moore III of Lynchburg, Va.; one brother, Cecil Pierce of Columbus, Ohio; one stepbrother, Jeffery Pierce of Kingsport, Tenn.; one special family friend, James "Goo-Loo" Pointer; 32 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving, caring friends. A funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at Zion Bethel UCC, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family has entrusted Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth.
