Willie Loyd Obituary

W.S. Loyd Sr. EDENTON - The Rev. Willie Sanford "Bill" Loyd, Sr., 88, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 in Britthaven of Edenton. Rev. Loyd was born in Louisville, Miss., and was the son of the late John Mack and Lessie Stewart Loyd. A retired Baptist minister, he served churches in Mississippi and more locally in Bowers Hill, Va., and in retirement became a member of Open Door Baptist Church in Edenton. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John David Loyd. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Taylor Loyd; a daughter, Teresa Benedict of Lake Gaston, N.C.; a son, Willie S. Loyd Jr. of Capron, Va.; four stepsons, Donald Wayne Conner, Roy Earl Conner, Richard Eugene Conner and George Thomas Conner, all of Suffolk; nine grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Ricky Bishop. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens on Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
