Charles Hudler Obituary

Charles F. Hudler VIRGINIA BEACH - Chuck Hudler passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2010 at his home in Troy, Mont., of a heart attack. He was 67 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents and in 2008, his wife, Sandy, of 33 years. He is survived by his daughter, Deb Deatrick and her husband Ted; son, Joe Hudler; brother, John Hudler; also, one granddaughter, Mary Deatrick; four grandsons, Charlie Deatrick, Cody, Jesse and Wyatt Hudler; and many nieces, nephews and family members who all adored him and will miss him dearly. Chuck was raised in Oregon and graduated with an engineering degree from Oregon State before moving to Virginia Beach in 1967 where he began his career with Damuth Trane as a sales engineer. Later in his career, he moved to Portland, Ore., and held the position of general manager and retired from the Trane Company there in 2007. Chuck first visited Troy, Mont., in the early 1980s and quickly adopted the area as his home away from home. Though it took Chuck and his wife, Sandy almost 20 years to make Troy their full-time residence, they embraced the area and visited often. It took more than a decade, but a log cabin home was completed in 2005. In 2007 Chuck and his wife, Sandy, truly retired and started a new adventure in Troy, Mont. Chuck never met a stranger and was blessed with an infectious personality and sincere interest in people. All who knew him are better people for it and will truly miss him. Chuck loved dogs almost as much as people, and was never without one. His last "little dog," Kootenai, loved to hunt almost as much as Chuck did and they spent hours in the field together. In Chuck's most recent months, he met Linda in Troy, Mont., after they both suffered great losses and found new reasons to enjoy life and all it had to offer. Chuck's mantra of "live in the moment" is a lesson for all of us. "Plan your work, work your plan," - Chuck Hudler A service for Chuck was held in Troy, Mont., on Oct 7. A graveside service will be held for the family, Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at Princess Anne Memorial Park, in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Memorial at the Troy Park." Please make checks payable to: Ralph Lippert and mail to him at 2234 Lake Creek Road, Troy, MT 59935.

When I think of Chuck the fun times come to mind, back in the days when we were all single -
racing down to the Fort Story Officer's Club (VA Beach) on Friday nights,
his jokes about being an engineer with the "Trane" company and how most people would ask him if drove a train,
and his (fake) idea about selling men's panty hose to wear under sheer white pants to hide the white area left from wearing a bathing suit (in contrast to tan legs)!

He was a great guy, funny, personable, and very intelligent .
I am glad I had the pleasure to know him.

I am still not ready to believe it's true. You will be missed beyond words. What you and Sandy meant to my family was priceless and I will always cherish our memories, your words to live by and just laughing. The day you moved on to your next journey, my husband and I were actually at the Sandy Dune, grilling steaks just the way you taught Michael to. We like to think you were looking down on us making sure they were just right (and maybe cursing he didn't use enough lighter fluid). My love and prayers go out to Chuck's family, friends he made family and of course Little Dog. He touched everyone he met and I feel blessed to have had him in my life! I love you, Ashly Dail
