Margaret Weatherford Obituary

Margaret Weatherford NORFOLK - Margaret M. "Peggy" Weatherford went through heaven's gates Oct. 11, 2010 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born in Norfolk (Ocean View) on May 18, 1935, the daughter of the late Harry Fred and Louise Parsons. Peggy was a teacher at Victory Christian Day School for 18 years, touching the lives of hundreds of children. She attended Granby High School where she met Gary Weatherford, her high school sweetheart, husband, caregiver and best friend. Peggy exemplified everything a sweet, loving Christian lady should be. Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 57 years, Gary Weatherford of Norfolk; daughter, Sherry L. Castaneda and husband Alberto of Virginia Beach; sons, Fred G. Weatherford III of Folkston, Ga., and Timothy J. Weatherford and wife Susan of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jason Castaneda of Virginia Beach, Tiffany Spencer of Cherokee, N.C., Timothy J. Weatherford Jr., of Corapeake, N.C., and Katy Weatherford of Middleburg, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Spencer and Jakobi Castaneda; special friend and nephew, Bruce N. Bowles; sisters, Betty Bowles and Patsy Cartwright both of Norfolk and brother, Linwood R. Parsons of Portsmouth and numerous other loving family and friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 13, in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Ave., Norfolk, VA 23509. A funeral will be held Thursday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. in Gateway Freewill Baptist Church, 5473 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, by Pastor Dale Burden. Burial will follow the services in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Granby Street in Norfolk. Peggy attended Gateway Freewill Baptist Church for more than 14 years until Alzheimer's disease prevented her from attending. In lieu of flowers you may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association of Hampton Roads, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502. To the entire Weatherford family, I wish to convey my heart felt sympathy at the passing of Peggy. Her warmth and nuturing ways are just two of the things I loved most about her. I will deeply miss her. I have much admiration for Gary who took care of Peggy and found it to be an Honor and a Privilege to do so. His patience with taking care of Peggy was remarkable. It was an absolute joy to see member's of the family again when attending services that I had not seen in many years. I wish however that it had been under different circumstances. I send a special prayer to my former husband Fred who was there for me as my Mother passed many years ago. To Tiffany Spencer a special thank you for being so warm and easing my tension. May God Bless the entire family.

Sherry, our thoughts are with you and your entire family. You and I have talked about loosing our mothers for a long time. You will get thro this and be strong for your dad. That father of yours already has a set of wings on in my book. What an angel he was with her. I can remember coming in Doc's office and there would be your mom and dad. Great big tall good looking man, and little tiny tiny shinny haired lady. This was even before she got sick. I remember thinking, look at the sweet couple, you couldn't even get a spoon between the 2 of them! They were so loving towards each other. And your dads patience with her all these years. Its undiscribable. She is in a good place now. She is perfect, she is with all her family members that have gone before her, eating at the Big Golden Coral! haha! I sure hope for mine and her sake they have one in heaven! I love you and Doc. You know I am a phone call away. thinking of all of you at this time, but, she is no longer confussed and she is having the time of her life. vickie pratt
