Barbara Young Obituary

Barbara S. Young VIRGINIA BEACH - Barbara Scott Young, 81, passed away Oct. 8, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Jane R. Young and resided most of her life in the Tidewater area. Barbara attended Granby High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1952. She taught in public schools in Norfolk and Richmond before pursuing a career in real estate. She is survived by her sister, Shirley M. McDuffie; her nephew, Vincent F. Murray and his wife Melanie; her great-nieces, Meredith Murray and Morgan Murray Sullenberger and her husband Jeff; her nieces, Kathi H. Ballard and Pat Hightower; her great-nephews John and Wilson Ballard, and her great-niece Nicole Hightower. Barbara was a kind and giving person. She was deeply loved by her family and her family meant everything to her. They will truly miss her. The family would like to express gratitude to the friends and staff at Marian Manor for making her last few years enjoyable. Also, we would like to thank Sentara Virginia Beach General staff for their compassion and guidance. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Marian Manor Retirement Community, Terrace Room, 5345 Marian Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association.

I am thankful for having had the opportunity to visit with Barbara, especially during the Saturday afternoon poker games at Marian Manor. We will all miss her.
